Quinn took over from Kevin Bond as Bournemouth boss in September
Bournemouth have parted company with manager Jimmy Quinn following a meeting of the new board on New Year's Eve.
The 49-year-old took over from Kevin Bond at the start of September and was in charge for only 121 days.
The Cherries are second from bottom of League Two - seven points from safety - and started the season on minus 17 points after a spell in administration.
Centre of excellence manager Eddie Howe has been named as caretaker boss for Saturday's game at Darlington.
Howe was a fans' favourite when he made 313 appearances in two spells with the club as a defender, before being forced to retire from playing because of a knee problem in 2007.
He was reserve team boss under Bond and left the club when the latter lost his job in September, but was soon brought back to Dean Court by Quinn and appointed to his current role in the youth set-up.
"AFC Bournemouth have today parted company with manager Jimmy Quinn," said a club statement. "The move follows a board meeting held this evening with the new board.
"The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Jimmy for his efforts over the last four months and wishes him every success in the future."
Quinn, who had angrily rejected calls from some fans to resign after Sunday's 2-0 home defeat by Barnet, is the shortest-serving manager since the club entered the Football League in 1923.
His departure came only hours after Cherries chairman and co-owner Paul Baker stood down.
He has sold his 50% shareholding in the club to a consortium headed by Bournemouth-based businessman Adam Murry.
Baker and co-owner Alastair Saverimutto bought the club in the summer after the Cherries spent several months in administration, with Murry subsequently joining the board.
Bournemouth say there will be a news conference on Friday "where the new board will update the media on the current situation".
