Stelios is set to miss the season-opener against Newcastle |
Bolton's Stelios Giannakopoulos will miss the start of the season after undergoing a hernia operation. The Greece international midfielder had the surgery in Athens and is expected to be out for at least a month.
"The problem has been building up for around two years," said the club's medical expert Dr Richard Freeman.
"But we had to get things moving to help the player overcome the discomfort. It has been resolved now and Stelios will feel better for it."
The 33-year-old is now set to miss the season-opener against Newcastle as the Trotters take on the side of former manager Sam Allardyce.
Stelios was signed by Allardyce from Olympiakos on a free transfer in May 2003.
