Blackpool have released eight players following the arrival of new manager Ian Holloway.
Claus Jorgensen, Jermaine Wright and Marlon Broomes have not been offered new deals, along with Francesco Carratta and Stuart Green.
"It's a difficult time when you're a player," assistant boss Steve Thompson told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"This should have been sorted earlier but with Tony Parkes leaving it's all hands to the deck."
Thompson added: "I think the Tony situation could have been handled better, but it's something we have to get on with."
David Fox, who agreed to join Colchester, youngsters Ashton Bayliss and Matt Kay have also been released.
But Jorgensen's departure may come as the biggest surprise to Blackpool supporters.
The 33-year-old midfielder, who joined Blackpool from Coventry in August 2006, scored six times in 110 appearances.
"Since I've been with the club Claus has been a big part of the squad.
"He was part of the team that got us promotion into the Championship and has been a fantastic pro both on and off the pitch.
"So he'll be a sad loss but I think at this stage of his career it's important he plays football."
Right-back Danny Coid and striker Brett Ormerod remain in discussion about extending their contracts.
