Chimbonda joined Blackburn for �2m in August

Blackburn defender Pascal Chimbonda has said he is determined to recapture the form that once saw him named the best right-back in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old France cap is looking forward to regular first-team football at Ewood Park after spending six months in the wilderness with Tottenham.

"When you're a footballer and you're not playing you're not happy," Chimbonda told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"But a change of club will make me feel a lot happier."

The Guadeloupe-born player began his career with Le Havre in 1999.

After four years with the Ligue 2 club, he moved to Bastia before making a £500,000 move to Wigan in 2005.

Chimbonda, who won one cap for France and was in their 2006 World Cup squad, joined Tottenham the following year, making 98 appearances.

He returned to White Hart Lane earlier this year after managing only 16 starts during a brief spell at Sunderland.

"When I returned to Tottenham I thought I would get a number of games," said Chimbonda. "But something happened although I don't know what.

"I've turned a page and I'm at a new club and I want to give 100% for Blackburn.

"When you move a lot it's not good for any player but now I've come here I think I need to prove I can play football again.

"I want to show everybody what I can do."

Chimbonda made his debut in the goalless draw against West Ham in August and admitted he was lacking fitness after not playing for over five months.

"Before the end of the first half I was a little bit tired because it was a long time since I'd played a full game," he said.

"But I felt better in the second half and I think when I play five games I'll feel more comfortable."
