Reid has been a big success since joining from Millwall |
Blackburn midfielder Steven Reid has given manager Mark Hughes a major boost by agreeing a new four-year contract. The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland midfielder is now contracted to stay at Ewood Park until the summer of 2010.
"We're delighted Steven has pledged his future to Rovers," chairman John Williams told the club website.
"He made a major impact last term and it is very good news that he is happy to sign a new deal. I'm sure it will be warmly welcomed by all Rovers fans."
Tottenham were reported to be interested in signing Reid, who joined Rovers from Millwall for 2.5m in 2003.
Reid was a key figure for Blackburn last season as they turned around their season to earn a place in next season's Uefa Cup.
He was involved in 34 of their 38 Premiership games, scoring four times.
