Reid has publicly declared his desire to stay at Ewood Park |
Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has confirmed the club have opened contract talks with midfielder Stephen Reid. The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who has a year left on his current deal, has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United.
But Hughes said: "Initial talks have taken place because we're very keen to sign Steven up for a longer period."
However, defender Lorenzo Amoruso will be allowed to leave the club when his current contract expires in the summer.
The Italian, 34, has not made a first-team appearance since October 2004 following a series of injuries, notably recent knee and ankle problems.
Hughes said: "It's fair to say he won't be offered another deal. Opportunities will be limited for him."
However, Hughes has not ruled out handing a new deal to Vratislav Gresko, who has not played since September following a knee injury, saying: "We'll wait and see.
"A decision hasn't been made on him as yet, but it will in the next couple of weeks."
