Barrow swoop for defender Bolland

Barrow have signed Cambridge defender Phil Bolland on a two-year deal.

The U's had been keen to keep the 32-year-old, but finances meant they were waiting for players to leave first.

Co-boss Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria: "This is a massive signing for us. He is a superb player and when you watch him in training he looks awesome.

"He is so at ease with everything. He is the perfect replacement for Steve McNulty, who left to join Fleetwood earlier in the summer."

Comfortable at centre-half, Bolland has a wealth of league experience from his time with Oxford, Peterborough and Chester.

And it was at the Deva Stadium where he made more than 150 appearances in three separate spells and first encountered current Barrow co-manager Dave Bayliss.

Bolland will miss the Bluebirds opening game of the Blue Square Premier season against Cambridge following his dismissal in the Blue Square Premier play-off final for his former club in which they lost 2-0 to Torquay.
