Barrow currently lie 20th in the Blue Square Premier
Barrow joint-manager Darren Sheridan has said his side lacked fight in the 3-0 FA Trophy defeat to Cumbrian rivals Workington Reds on Tuesday.
Two goals from Gareth Arnison and one from Phil McLuckie saw the Blue Square North side through to a third round tie at home to Wrexham.
Sheridan told BBC Radio Cumbria: "We knew we were going to be in a battle but they fought better than us.
"I'm gutted. We knew it was a derby game but they were more up for it."
Sheridan also defended goalkeeper Alan Martin who escaped a red card after he brought down Arnison for Workington's penalty.
"He didn't touch him. Obviously the referee had to give a penalty but he didn't touch him," said Sheridan.
He also defended the decision to make six changes to the side that faced Middlesbrough.
"You're giving them a chance to prove themselves but the players didn't show enough tonight," said Sheridan.
"A few of the lads didn't show enough for me tonight. We were at home with a decent crowd so I thought they could have given more."
"We hold our hands up. We pick the team. But they need to show a bit more fight than that if we're to avoid relegation," he added.
The Bluebirds return to league duties in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday with a trip to Stevenage.
"They're a good side," said Sheridan.
"But if you look at our start to the season, we went to places like Kidderminster and won and that's what's frustrating for me and Dave Bayliss [joint-manager] and the fans.
"We need to put it right, get the win and get the lads smiling again."
