Barrow have released striker David Brown as the Bluebirds continue to re-shape their squad during the January transfer window.

Brown, 29, joined Barrow on non-contract terms in October 2008.

"We are going in a different direction and he didn't really fit into our plans," joint-boss Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.

Bayliss has made forwards Chris Thompson and Lee Hunt and goalkeeper Tim Deasy available for loan.

"We've had a number of enquiries about some of our players," Bayliss said. "We're leaving that in the laps of the players themselves."

"We don't want to force anyone out of the club. It's down to the players themselves if they want to go."

Thompson's season has been hampered by injury while Hunt has recently been out on loan at Fleetwood Town.

Deasy has found himself as second choice goalkeeper following the arrival of Scotland Under-21 international Alan Martin on loan from Leeds United.

Bayliss is also confident that his squad will not be left light on numbers should his four loan arrivals - Martin, Marcus Holness, Wayne Curtis and Luke Sharry - not have their stays extended.

"We're not going to be daft, we're not going to leave ourselves wide open as regard numbers in the squad.

"We'll make sure that we know where we stand come the end of the transfer window."

Bayliss has also confirmed he is chasing one more signing this month after earlier indicating he would be unlikely to do so.

"We definitely want to bring one more player in," he said. "But that will mean a couple of players have uncertain futures."

"We've told [captain] Paul Jones and Paul Tait that they've got to fight for their place now with players coming in.

"It's up to them now whether they want to stay and fight for their place or whether they want to go," he said.

The Bluebirds are now unlikely to pursue their interest in York City striker Richard Brodie, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Holker Street earlier this season.

"He's gone back to York and had a second reprieve and is on fire at the moment," Bayliss said. "If we had a hell of a lot of money we could maybe get him away but we haven't.

"I spoke to him and he said he would have loved to stay at Barrow but he's contracted there for this season and next.

"But I believe we've got an even better player in Wayne Curtis at the moment."
