Barnsley are set to sign Jamaican international O'Neil Thompson from Norwegian side Notodden FK.

An undisclosed fee has been agreed and the 25-year-old defensive midfielder is now awaiting a work permit.

"He will be a great addition to what we are trying to build at this football club," manager Simon Davey told the Barnsley website.

"He is a player with great stature, composure and presence on the pitch and will bring a lot to our squad."

The decision to sign Thompson, who stands 6ft 4ins tall, follows a successful trial at Oakwell.

And he will join international team-mate Jamal Campbell-Ryce in the Barnsley squad.
