Barnsley owner could stand down

Barnsley

Barnsley's chairman and owner Patrick Cryne has said he would step down if there was someone who wanted to take over at the club.

Cyrne told BBC Radio Sheffield: "There hasn't been a season without me wanting to say 'enough', the pressure is just too great.

"I'm extraordinarily unhappy in the role that I occupy within the club.

"The only reason I hold that role is because nobody else wants to pick up the baton."

The Reds chairman still has to decide manager Simon Davey's future after the club narrowly avoided relegation.

He wants Davey has to justify his position and will hold discussions with the manager in the next few of weeks.

However, Cryne has now suggested his own future is in doubt, admitting he had considered resigning after every season he has had in the boardroom at Oakwell.

"These years in the position of owner have been the most miserable despite the fact we've had a promotion and been to Wembley," added Cryne.

"If there's someone there who wants to take the responsibility then I'm happy to sit back."
