Hume could have died, according to manager Simon Davey
Barnsley look into their legal options after Iain Hume suffered a fractured skull and internal bleeding in Saturday's defeat by Sheffield United.
Hume is in a "stable condition" in a high dependency unit in hospital after undergoing surgery on a fractured skull following a challenge by Chris Morgan.
"The club may be seeking legal advice on the matter," Reds manager Simon Davey told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"We've ended up with a life-threatening injury and a player in a hospital bed."
A Blades statement read: "Sheffield United are saddened and concerned to hear that Iain Hume is being monitored in a high dependency unit and wish him a speedy and full recovery."
