Angel wants Villa exit
Aston Villa's Juan Pablo Angel
Juan Pablo Angel has been a Villa misfit
Aston Villa's record signing Juan Pablo Angel says he wants to leave the club.

The 27-year-old joins Turkish international defender Alpay in wanting to leave Villa Park before the transfer window closes at the end of January.

Angel has scored just 20 times since his protracted 9.5m transfer from Argentinian side River Plate in January 2001.

Like Alpay, he has been frozen out of the squad and finally lost patience when he was not on the bench for Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Spurs.

"I feel it would be in the best interests of myself and the club to move on. It is clear I am not in the manager's plans," Angel told the Birmingham Evening Mail newspaper.

"I'm disappointed with the way I'm being treated.

"I came here to play first-team football and I don't think I have been given the opportunity this season under Graham Taylor," added Angel, who has scored just once this season.

Angel was linked with AC Milan, Lazio and Parma last March, but pledged instead to stay and fight for his place at Villa.
