Vieira wants Arsenal deal
Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira
Vieira has one year left on his current deal
Patrick Vieira claims he is happy to commit himself to Arsenal for the next five or six years.

Vieira, who has a year to run on his current deal, told BBC Radio Five Live: "I would love to stay because I am so happy here.

"If the club came to me tomorrow and said 'Patrick we will give you a contract for five or six years' I will be happy with it.

"The club know that I want to stay and I know they want me to stay.

"So we will talk about my contract because there is one year left and of course I want to sort it out before pre-season. But I'm sure it will be sorted out quickly."

The Gunners announced on FA Cup final day that Thierry Henry had agreed a new contract and Vieira is confident the likes of Robert Pires and Dennis Bergkamp will follow suit.

I hope nobody will leave the club because we will need everybody to be successful

He said: "We all want to stay because we know what we are capable of and we know that we are so close.

"That's why we don't want to leave. This is a fantastic club. There is a good atmosphere around the club so nobody wants to leave and I hope everyone will stay.

The 26-year-old French midfielder believes manager Arsene Wenger must add two or three players to the squad to challenge Premiership champions Manchester United again next season.

"We don't need that many players because our group is strong enough to fight against Manchester United and I think we showed that this year," he said.

"Even if we finished second, we played really good football.

"Two or three players will give us a lift and I hope that nobody will leave the club because we will need everybody to be successful."

Vieira also admitted to being flattered by reports that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson would like to bring him to Old Trafford.

He said: "I think Ferguson is one of the best managers ever for what he has done for Manchester United in the last 20 years.

"Of course I have big respect for him. As a human being, I think he is a good man and to know that a man like that appreciates me is really good."
