Wenger was left short of cover for first-choice keeper David Seaman when Rami Shaaban broke his leg in December. The keeper had his medical on Friday and said: "I am delighted to be joining Arsenal. "They are a team full of world-class players and I am looking forward to playing for one of the best clubs in Europe." And Wenger is understandably relieved to have ended his search for cover. "Since the injury to Rami Shaaban, it was very important that we brought in another goalkeeper as cover," the Gunners boss told the club's official website. "Of course, we are very pleased to have signed Guillaume. "He is a very experienced player and has proved during his time with Lens that he is a very capable goalkeeper." The 32-year-old has spent most of his professional career at RC Lens before leaving in December. He has been without a club since then. Last week, Wenger had discussions in London with Brazil's World Cup-winning keeper Marcos but a deal fell through because of personal reasons. Seaman was Arsenal's only fit goalkeeper for a period earlier in the year after Stuart Taylor broke his finger. |
