Arsenal 'target' Rustu
Recber Rustu
Rustu had been linked with Manchester United
Turkish international goalkeeper Recber Rustu is set for a switch to Arsenal in the new year, according to a report.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had been lining up Rustu as a summer signing, reported the Daily Express newspaper.

But, after David Seaman's understudy Rami Shaaban broke his leg in training, Wenger decided to act quickly.

Rustu becomes a free agent at the end of the season and, should the Gunners opt to sign him before then, he will cost 2m to lure away from Fenerbahce.

Highbury is facing a dramatic goalkeeping crisis with Shaaban out injured and Stuart Taylor nursing a broken finger.

The 18-year-old Craig Holloway is currently Seaman's understudy.

Rustu has long been a target of Wenger's after impressing during the World Cup where Turkey finished third overall.

The 29-year-old is reportedly desperate for a switch to the Premiership.

He recently said: "I received an offer to go to Manchester United some time ago and I should have gone to England when I had the chance. I made a mistake."
