The 25-year-old midfielder has joined the Gunners for a reported �4.5m, subject to a work permit.

Gilberto Silva played in every single minute of Brazil's seven matches during their triumphant World Cup campaign in the Far East this summer.

Gilberto is the fourth member of the World Cup-winning team to be transferred since their return from Japan.

Edilson has moved to Japan J-League team Kashiwa Reyson, Luizao has joined Germany's Hertha Berlin and Belletti has signed for Spanish side Villarreal.

Gilberto Silva will now join up with his new team-mates at the club's pre-season training camp in Austria.
