The Gunners boss believes the foundations have been laid for what could possibly be a decade of dominance for the London club. Arsenal's victory over Newcastle at the weekend has left the destiny of the Premiership title very much in the hands of Wenger's men.
And with a state-of-the-art 60,000-seater stadium on its way, the Frenchman is convinced Arsenal will emerge from Manchester United's shadow. He said: "Building a football club is like building a scaffold, layer by layer. "If people everywhere are talking about us, it builds our reputation - it builds another part of the scaffold. "There is no point building a new 60,000-seater stadium like we are and then saying you are hoping only to be second biggest. "I think we have a stronger squad than we had in 1998 when we last won the title. "We could not have gone to Newcastle and won away then with 10 players out injured like we did last Saturday. "And we are in a position where winning the title is in our own hands now.
"We have the belief that we can win the championship." But Wenger insisted it was vital his players maintained their focus ahead of what promises to be the closest finish to the Premiership in years. "We have won nothing yet - and there is still room for improvement," he added. "The important thing now is to be vigilant. We are on a good run, but the task is to maintain it while we are also in the Champions League and the FA Cup. "That will demand a lot of concentration." | |
