Weir worked as player coach at Third Division side Montrose
Jim Weir has been appointed as the new manager of Scottish Football League Second Division side Arbroath.
The Gayfield Park club had reduced the candidates to a shortlist of three.
Clyde assistant John McCormack, Weir and caretaker Robbie Raeside were all vying to take over from John McGlashan, who resigned two weeks ago.
Weir spent time as a player with Hamilton, Hearts and St Johnstone before working as player-coach with Third Division side Montrose.
The 40-year-old former defender became Montrose manager in February 2007 and was sacked 17 months later despite his side being third in Division Three.
Raeside, who was player/assistant at Gayfield Park, was in charge for Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Stenhousemuir - his second game at the helm since McGlashan's resignation.
Arbroath lost 1-0 away to Dumbarton in their first game under 37-year-old defender Raeside, who began his third spell at Gayfield in 2006.
McGlashan stunned the Red Lichties by ending his four-year spell in charge two weeks ago.
Cowboy just goes about his business and I for one am glad to see that Clyde's results have improved since he arrived there
Albion Rovers manager Paul Martin
Arbroath have recorded only one home win all season and currently lie second bottom of Division Two.
McCormack, the 54-year-old former Dundee, Queen's Park, Morton and Albion Rovers manager, became assistant to John Brown at Clyde in September.
He had joined the Bully Wee when they were bottom of Division Two, but they have won three and drawn one of their six games since his arrival at the Cumbernauld club, who now sit eighth in the table.
McCormack was praised by Rovers manager Paul Martin for helping build the side who now sit second top of Division Three.
"A number of players at the club were signed by Cowboy, but you don't hear him shouting from the rooftops about it," Martin told the Coatbridge club's website.
"Cowboy just goes about his business and I for one am glad to see that Clyde's results have improved since he arrived there."
