Knight replaces Priddy as Aldershot goalkeeping coach
Knight made more than 800 league appearances for Portsmouth
Aldershot have brought in legendary former Portsmouth keeper Alan Knight as their new goalkeeping coach after Paul Priddy stepped down from the role.
Long-serving Priddy, 56, has fulfilled the role for 15 years, throughout the Shots' days in non-league football.
But Aldershot boss Kevin Dillon needs someone more committed in the role and has turned to his old Pompey team-mate.
Knight, 48, played 801 games for Pompey between 1978 and 2000, a record for a goalkeeper at a single club.
And the Londoner, honoured by the Queen with an MBE in the 2000 New Year's honours list, carried on in a coaching role at Pompey after the end of his playing days.
"He has extensive experience as a goalkeeper," said Dillon, who took over at Aldershot last month. "And he has coached in the Premier League too."
Priddy also holds a footballing record, having become the oldest Aldershot player to represent the club in an Isthmian League Cup tie, aged 45 years and 270 days.
Dillon told the club's website: "He has been a great servant to Aldershot Town and I thank him for the service that he has given to the club.
Priddy was held in high regard by former Shots keeper Nikki Bull
"This decision is purely based on the fact that he has commitments elsewhere.
"He has his own business and also works with AFC Wimbledon.
"We need a coach who is able to come in for two or three days a week and also be able to commit to away matches.
"In the short time I worked with Paul he was terrific.
"He is a great bloke and a great character who did an excellent job.
"The proof is in the pudding with Mikhael Jaimez Ruiz doing so well."
