Waddock grateful for Shots chance

Waddock steered Aldershot to the top half of League Two

New Wycombe manager Gary Waddock admits he may never experience a bond again like he did with former club Aldershot.

The 47-year-old spent two and a half years with the Shots and led them from the Blue Square Premier to sixth in League Two before leaving on Tuesday.

He told BBC Surrey: "My relationship with the club will never never finish.

"The relationship I've got with the people there, with the crowd is fantastic. I don't know if I'll ever experience that again."

"The backroom staff at that football club are excellent people and they've done a fine job. The players are fantastic to work with. There's no perfect time, [to move on], I had to make a decision."

Waddock said the club was a very different place following the death of chairman John McGinty: "He's not there any more, in my opinion the club isn't the same.

"He was the father figure, or figure of the football club. It's changed. That side of it has changed.

"A fantastic man, massive, massive character and personality and I'll never forget him. It has changed slightly on that side."
