Aldershot goalkeeper Nikki Bull is no nearer being fit to return, and will undergo a third test on his groin, which is also causing him foot pain.
The 27-year-old has missed their last four games, three of which they lost.
Aldershot manager Gary Waddock told BBC Southern Counties Radio: "He's got pain, and we don't know what the problem is at present.
"The first two scans told us nothing. But we don't know if the answer is rest or what route we need to take."
Waddock must choose between Venezuelan Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz, who played in the last four matches, or 19-year-old Reading loan signing Alex McCarthy for Saturday's trip to Port Vale.
The former QPR boss said: "Alex is a good, young goalkeeper, and it's competition, isn't it?
"With the weather conditions it has been impossible so far to judge him. Obviously I've seen him play a few times. Its an opportunity for him to get some first-team experience. But we'll have to wait and see on that."
