Aldershot winger Ryan Williams will miss the start of the season after injuring a knee in a pre-season game against Crystal Palace on Tuesday. Scans have shown that the 28-year-old sustained a partial tear to his anterior cruciate ligament.
Williams will go back to a specialist in four weeks' time for a further assessment of the injury once the bruising has died down.
It will then become clear if he needs surgery or can make an early return.
"My studs got caught in the ground," he told the Shots' website after he was stretchered off.
"All the weight had gone through my standing leg as I tried to take off and I got a crunching sensation in my leg."
