No deals imminent at Accrington

Accrington chief executive Rob Heys has warned fans not to expect a major influx of new pre-season signings.

Heys has pointed out that manager John Coleman, who has been linked with former Preston defender Colin Murdock, is again working on a tight budget.

"We've made mistakes along the way," he told BBC Radio Lancashire. "And it's important we don't repeat them.

"Those of us behind the scenes need to ensure there is no shortfall and that we can compete in the Football League."

We are monitoring the situation and if the opportunity becomes available then we'll make every effort to bring him back

Heys added: "There are so many players who have been released and are available and it's a question of whether you bring them in straight away and offer them more money than you want to, or do you wait?

"So it's probably going to be a mixture of two or three players coming in sooner rather than later, and then waiting a little bit longer to see who's available when we get into pre-season and maybe bring a few triallists in."

Former Accrington midfielder Gary Roberts has been linked with a return to the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

The 21-year-old initially joined Ipswich on loan in October 2006 before signing a permanent deal two months later.

"John Coleman always keeps in touch with his former players," said Heys. "He has made a very tentative enquiry, but unfortunately Gary has played at a higher level and is on good wages at Ipswich. So maybe he'll try and stay at a better level elsewhere.

"But we are monitoring the situation and, if the opportunity becomes available, we'll make every effort to bring him back."
