Calderwood has used a number of players at right-back this season
Aberdeen have signed Javan Vidal on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old right-back is likely to go straight into the squad for Sunday's league clash with Celtic.
Vidal came through the youth system at Eastlands and spent September on loan at Grimsby Town.
He has represented England at various youth levels, including Under-19s, and was in the same squads as new team-mate Sone Aluko at U17 and U18 level.
Vidal is yet to make a first-team appearance for City but was played in the side which reached the 2006 FA Youth Cup final.
"Hopefully I'll be knocking on the first-team door," he told the Aberdeen website.
"I'm an attacking full-back, I like to get forward and create chances for strikers and midfielders.
"I can defend as well so it will be quite exciting for the fans.
"Scottish football is massive, to be fair, a very good standard.
"Celtic and Rangers: you've just got to look at their European success to know how big it is."
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood will be hoping Vidal has a more successful stint at the club than West Brom's Jared Hodgkiss, who left Pittodrie earlier this week after struggling to break in to the first team during his loan spell.
"We had a problem at right-back because Jared had left so it is great to get Javan in before Sunday's game," said the Dons boss.
"I had spoken to Jared Hodgkiss in December to find out how he was feeling.
"He was disappointed at not getting as many games as he thought he would. It looked likely that he was going to leave so we started looking at other options and we came up with Javan."
