Aberdeen agree swap with Rangers for Velicka and Foster
Aberdeen will get Rangers' Andrius Velicka in exchange for defender Ricky Foster
Aberdeen have agreed a swap deal with Rangers for Lithuanian striker Andrius Velicka, with defender Richard Foster heading to Ibrox.
Aberdeen have confirmed the move is part of a season-long loan arrangement.
Lithuania international Velicka agreed a £1m three-year deal with Rangers in 2008, but has played only eight matches for the Glasgow club.
Foster signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with Aberdeen in January, and was a regular feature last season.
The exchange deal was organised on transfer deadline day with both players heading in opposite directions as the clubs negotiated a mutual deal.
Foster 'surprised' by Rangers move
"It has all happened very quickly," Foster told the Rangers website.
"I was surprised the way things have gone and I'm very excited by it.
"This is a really good opportunity for me, I am under no illusions that I am going to walk into the team but I will work really hard to try to get there and if I do it will be a great personal achievement.
"I have to hit the ground running and show what I can do in training and try to get into the manager's plans as early as I can.
"If you look at the Rangers team it's going to be difficult for me to break in. Hopefully my pace can be an asset in either of the full back positions or further forward.
"I realise that I am a squad player but I hope to do what I can to show that I can play for Rangers."
