By David Sharp

1700: That's all folks. Thanks for joining me.

Celtic are in seventh heaven after ending their mini-goal drought with a tsunami of goals.

Bizarre that their strikers still can't score though, eh?! A goal from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink or Georgios Samaras these days is as fabulous as a sighting of a hippogriff: rarely seen, spoken of with awe and the subject of wild, sometimes scandalous gossip.

Big Dutchman Jan looked like he took that penalty-kick wearing a pair of giant, comedy clogs. Hey, even John Potter managed to score for Celtic...and he doesn't even play for them!

Bye for now!

1657: "Can't believe this! Sat in Hong Kong watching St Mirren for the first time this year on the telly getting their annual drubbing at Celtic. Mince goalie, mince referee and an og. The commentary's in Cantonese and you know they are taking the pee! Am away tae ma bed." nesamooli on My Sport Join the debate on My Sport

1655: Full-time at Tannadice as Hearts put daylight between themselves and United in the race for third place and a Europa League spot; the Jambos are now five points clear of United and six ahead of Aberdeen who were held to a dour scoreless draw at home by Kilmarnock.

1654: Full-time at Easter Road and jeers of derision ring round the Leith air. Hibs and Falkirk draw blank in a match that plumbed the dark depths of mediocrity.

To give John Hughes' side some credit, they were the more ambitious team going forward and should have collected all three points. Hibs, on the other hand, were dire.

1652: The whistle blows at Celtic Park to bring Saints' horror-show to an end. It was a fluent, at times cavalier, attacking display from Celtic who capitalised on their numerical advantage with some spectacular finishing to cut Rangers lead to four goals at the top of the table.

The home side were certainly aided by some truly guff defending from St Mirren and a catastrophic performance by their keeper Chris Smith.

1651: Full-time at the Caledonian Stadium: Motherwell overcome Caley Thistle as it finishes 2-1 to Mark McGhee's men. The Highlanders suffer their first defeat under Terry Bucher.

1650: Five minutes added time at Tannadice. United search frantically for an equaliser.

1649: Kilmarnock substitute Willie Gibson is replaced by Danny Invincibile at Pittodrie, takes a hissy fit and storms off up the tunnel like a disaffected teenager.

1648: Sol Bamba is named man of the match at Easter Road and the whole stadium bursts out laughing! Gallows humour as the crowd endure a dreadful game of football.

1647: As the minutes tick away, things are hotting up at Pittodrie but neither side seems able to snatch victory. It's anyone's game.

1645: Brown, looking to replicate Nakamura's hat-trick and wrestle the match ball from his grasp, sends a fizzing left-foot shot narrowly wide.

1644: A few minutes ago Kilmarnock's Craig Bryson struck the outside of the post as Aberdeen escape at Pittodrie.

1642: Ben Hutchinson and Georgios Samaras have taken Scott McDonald and Vennegoor of Hesselink's places spearheading Celtic's rampant attack.

1640: It's all kicking off at Tannadice as Dundee United fail to kick the ball out of play so that Adrian Mrowiec can get treatment.

1639: After a nervy delay as ref Smith disperses the Hearts protesters, Francisco Sandaza gathers himself and steps up to take the kick but he fluffs his shot and Balogh saves! High drama at Tannadice!

1638: "I told you it would be 11-0 to Celtic today."
BBC Scotland pundit Murdo MacLeod

1637: Penalty for Dundee United! Six or seven Hearts players swarm around referee Eddie Smith after he points to the spot following Eggert Jonsson's challenge on Francisco Sandaza.

1636: When was the last time a team scored seven goals without any of their strikers' names appearing on the scoresheet? I'd take a wild guess at never. Any ideas? Join the debate on My Sport

1635: Goal! Celtic 7-0 St Mirren
It's a magnificent seven for the home side as Hinkel's whipped centre is nodded past his own keeper by the luckless John Potter. I'm being kind to Potter. It was goonery of the highest order.

1633: Aberdeen midfielder Jamie Smith makes his long-awaited return from injury. Can he be hero at Pittodrie?

1630: "Celtic could be top of the league with another few goals!" JordanBlack68 on My Sport Join the debate on My Sport

1628: Goal! Celtic 6-0 St Mirren
Another goal from Scott Brown as Celtic administer a ruthless drubbing, a tanking, a scudding, a thrashing, nay, a horsing (or is that neigh?!) to their miserable 10-man opponents.

Crosas threads the ball through to Brown who springs the Saints half-hearted offside trap and races clear to slot the ball past Smith, who was rooted to the spot like an Easter Island statue.

1626: That was Nakamura's second hat-trick for Celtic. And, according to BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound anchor Richard Gordon, Celtic have bagged a third of all hat-tricks scored in SPL history. Wow!

1624: Terrors boss Craig 'Harry Potter' Levein makes an instant substitution: debutant James Wesolowski is replaced by Craig Conway as they attempt to haul themselves back into the game.

1622: Goal! Dundee United 0-1 Hearts
The Jambos break the tense deadlock. Bruno Aguiar has an effort on goal rebounds to Michael Stewart whose low right-footed shot flies into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

1621: "Dundee United are really beginning to put Hearts under a lot of pressure."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Stephen Frail

1619: Lee Bullen blasts over the bar seconds after Michael Higdon strikes the Hibs crossbar.

1618: Three goals in seven minutes from Celtic. They've cut the goal deficit on Rangers to six. Can the reigning champions pull off a sensational coup and regain their place at the summit of the SPL?

1616: Goal! Celtic 5-0 St Mirren
Japanese set-piece maestro Shunsuke Nakamura curls a stunning free-kick which zips past Smith at his near post.

1612: A hearty rendition of 'Stand Up If You Hate Dundee' rings around Tannadice as the atmosphere hots up. The Hearts fans respond with 'When The Hearts Go Marching In'.

1611: Goal! Celtic 4-0 St Mirren
Scott Brown confirms Celtic's total domination with a slightly sclaffed shot from 10-yards which squirms under Smith's body.

1611: Kilmarnock's Kevin Kyle heads over the Aberdeen bar after Jamie Hamill sees his shot blocked. Turgid stuff at Pittodrie.

1610-and-a-half: Goal! Inverness CT 1-2 Motherwell
Almost simultaneously Cillian Sheridan fires Motherwell ahead with a fine strike from 18 yards.

1610: Goal! Celtic 3-0 St Mirren
Aiden McGeady birls on a sixpence and clips the ball into the Saints box where it is headed clear but only into the path of Marc Crosas who kills it and rifles a humdinger of a shot which swerves wickedly past the helpless Smith. What a goal!

1609: The unsung Andreas Hinkel has been absolutely outstanding for Celtic today. The German wing-back has been instrumental in most of their best moves and set up Nakamura's second.

1608: "It looks like it's going to be the same as it was in the first half - one way traffic."
BBC Scotland pundit Murdo MacLeod

1607: "When you get two evenly-matched sides both lining-up 4-4-2, it becomes very difficult for either to get a result unless there is a mistake"
BBC Radio Scotland pundit Brian Irvine at the Caledonian Stadium

1605: Celtic pick up where they left off as Hinkel's cross is nodded into McDonald's path by Vennegoor of Hesselink but the scurrying Hobbit-esque striker wellies the ball wildly over the bar.

1603: And we're off again!

1600: Orson Welles was The Third Man, but the real question is: was Jack Ross the last man in that controversial spot-kick incident at Celtic Park? Indeed, was it even a penalty?

1556: By the way, Scotland are leading Italy 16-3 in the Six Nations match at Murrayfield.

1554: Hey Professors!! Can you all please stop talking about your various theses and essays and engage in today's SPL action? What do you all make of today's harem-scarem SPL action so far. Sounds like appalling fare at Easter Road and Pittodrie. Join the debate on My Sport

1552: "Celtic are looking a million times better today. I can see a cricket score." shrek69 on My Sport Join the debate on My Sport

Gordon Strachan's side have looked far more spritely than in recent weeks. Can they bag the 11 goals that will take them back to the top of the table?

1549: Half-time across the country. A cacophony of boos reverberate around Easter Road as Hibs and Falkirk play out a drab stalemate. Phew! Time for a wee breather.

1547: "Hearts should be behind here against Dundee United but they are still in the game."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Stephen Frail at Tannadice

1546: The the goal-shy Dutchman skelps a left-foot snap-shot wide under pressure from a gaggle of red bodies.

1545: Vennegoor of Hesselink's ambitious bicycle kick is blocked and breaks for Caldwell whose header bounces off the top of St Mirren's bar.

1543: Over at Easter Road Lee Bullen's cross-cum-shot is tipped over by Grzegorz Szamotulski.

1541: "I think Motherwell had the initiative after scoring the opening goal, as tends to happen, but I feel a draw is a fair result overall"
BBC Radio Scotland pundit Brian Irvine at Caledonian Stadium

1540: Stuffy defences are dominating proceedings at Pittodrie with Aberdeen and Kilmarnock locked at nada-zip, struggling to create any meaningful opportunities. They're struggling to create any meaningless ones either.

1539: Goal! Inverness CT 1-1 Motherwell
The home side draw level as Grant Munro smashes the ball home after goalkeeper Graeme Smith fails to deal with a cross into the penalty box.

1538: Tam Scobbie's cross is headed over the Hibs bar by Michael Higdon as Falkirk squander an excellent chance to take the lead at Easter Road.

1537: "Hibs as an attacking force have done absolutely nothing."
BBC Scotland pundit Allan Preston at Easter Road

1535: Goal! Celtic 2-0 St Mirren
I spoke too soon! Shunsuke Nakamura deservedly doubles Celtic's advantage with an arrowed shot from just inside the box. Nice through ball from Hinkel.

1533: It's all gone quiet after that flurry of activity. Thank goodness. I need a wee lull to recover.

1530: Celtic have only converted four from eight penalty kicks this season. A poor ratio.

1528: Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink steps up and rifles the ball down the middle but Smith makes amends for his earlier howler to parry the ball away.

1527: Goal! Inverness CT 0-1 Motherwell
John Sutton beats Ryan Esson to a long ball after the goalkeeper rushes out of his box before passing the ball into the net from 20 yards.

1526: Penalty at Celtic Park. Scott McDonald explodes into the Buddies box and the Aussie tumbles under the attentions of Jack Ross. That was a harsh call. Ross is red-carded by the ref. That is even harsher. The St Mirren defender looked to have got a toe to the ball. Regardless what I think, it's a penalty.

1524: Before I forget: Lee Naylor has given way to O'Dea.

1523: Andreas Hinkel delivers a probing cross from the right and McDonald rises to meet it but his weak header drifts well wide.

1522: "Both teams are just facing up to each other and there's nothing between them"
BBC Radio Scotland pundit Brian Irvine at Caledonian Stadium

It's a Mexican stand-off.

1521: Aberdeen's Javan Vidal plays a neat one-two with Darren Mackie and fires a shot wide of the Kilmarnock goal. Some rotten shooting at Pittodrie.

1520: A Stephen Hughes pile-driver straight at Inverness goalkeeper Ryan Esson is the first moment of note in a dull encounter at Caledonian Stadium.

1519: "The goalkeeper looked as though he had it, but he let go of it and let it slip past the goal-line."
BBC Scotland commentator John Barnes

1518: Celtic have an injury problem. Darren O'Dea is poised to enter the fray. Not sure who he'll replace.

1517: Falkirk's Steve Lovell almost capitalises on Chris Hogg's mistake when he is presented with a shooting chance inside the six-yard box but Szamotulski blocks the striker's shot.

1516: Goal! Celtic 1-0 St Mirren
Absurd gaffe from Saints keeper Chris Smith allows Celtic an early lead as he spills Shunsuke Nakamura's speculative strike from 25-yards. That was an unmitigated disaster for the butterfingered goalie.

1515: "It's been a good start from Dundee United and Hearts, two teams battling for a Europa Cup spot.
BBC Radio Scotland commentator Paul Mitchell

1514: Derek Riordan eludes his marker and sends over an inviting cross for team-mate Colin Nish but the Hibernian striker heads over the Falkirk crossbar.

1513: Celtic counter at pace and Scott McDonald weaves in from the left to set himself up for a right-foot strike, but his effort lacks fizz and Chris Smith collects with ease.

1511: Kilmarnock's Craig Bryson is booked for simulation at Pittodrie. "He went down in instalments" according to BBC Radio Scotland commentator Scott Davie.

1512: Dorman bursts through the heart of the Celtic defence and Stephen McManus lunges to deflect his shot high over Boruc's crossbar.

1510: Evenly matched so far at Celtic Park. St Mirren, in their dashing ruby-red away strip, are spraying the ball around with no little poise. Gus MacPherson said his side have come to play football...and that's exactly what they're doing. No real goalmouth action thus far.

1508: A heavy touch by Hibernian goalie Gregor Szamotulski almost allows Falkirk in as he struggles to deal with a passback but the ball eventually trundles harmlessly wide for a goal-kick.

1506: "Lee Wallace's foul on Warren Feeney could have been red rather than yellow later in the game."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Stephen Frail at Tannadice

Not for the faint-hearted as Dundee United lock horns with Hearts.

1504: Aberdeen striker Lee Miller and Kilmarnock defender Simon Ford collide like Randy "The Ram" Robinson and Necro Butcher in The Wrestler.

Both require magic sponge treatment after that titanic clash.

1503: "It's the third consecutive week Hearts have fielded a different central defensive pairing."
BBC Radio Scotland commentator Paul Mitchell

1501: Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen endured calls for his head after last weekend's 2-0 defeat to bottom club Inverness and responds by making two changes.

Midfielders Denes Rosa and Ross Chisholm make way for Colin Nish and Joe Keenan in an attacking line-up which also contains Jonatan Johansson, Steven Fletcher and Derek Riordan.

1500: And we're off!

1458: And to complete the team news, let's swoop north to the Caledonian Stadium:

Inverness CT: Esson, Tokely, Mihadjuks, Munro, Djebi-Zadi, Proctor, Duncan, Black, Foran, Odhiambo, Imrie. Subs: Fraser, McBain, Morais, Rooney, Hastings, Duff, Kerr.

Motherwell: Graeme Smith, Brian McLean, Reynolds, Craigan, Hammell, Clarkson, Hughes, Klimpl, O'Brien, Sutton, Sheridan. Subs: Krysiak, Malcolm, Darren Smith, Lasley, Fitzpatrick, Murphy, McGarry.

1456: "Re 1423: Never seen it, but was told the coin was attached to a bit of string and was quickly reeled in again - that's the credit crunch for you." Francesco Vasquez Garcia on My Sport Join the debate on My Sport

Ha ha! Francesco's on fire!

1454: And team news from Tannadice:

Dundee Utd: Zaluska, Kovacevic, Wilkie, Dods, Grainger, Caddis, Buaben, Gomis, Wesolowski, Feeney, Sandaza. Subs: McGovern, Dillon, Daly, David Robertson, Conway, Shala, Dixon.

Hearts: Balogh, Neilson, Jonsson, Karipidis, Lee Wallace, Obua, Palazuelos, Stewart, Driver, Aguiar, Mrowiec. Subs: Kello, Mikoliunas, Cesnauskis, Thomson, Elliot, McGowan, Husband.

1453: "We need to sign this Sheerluck Holmes fella, then we (Celtic) would stand a better chance in the goalscoring department." Francesco Vasquez Garcia on My Sport Join the debate on My Sport

1451: Hearts will be reeling from the news that influential midfielder Laryea Kingston could be out for up to two months after tearing a hamstring in his fleeting appearance against St Mirren last weekend.

The Jambos, two points above United in third place, have been hit by an injury and suspension crisis and are short of strikers and defenders for the trip north to silvery Tayside. Christian Nade is suspended while Gary Glen and Mike Tullberg are struggling with various ailments.

1449: Hibs have fared little better and are on a dreadful run with just one league win in their last eight outings. Both sides' confidence is as fragile as a Faberge egg and perhaps they could do with a motivational talk from ludicrous U2 front-man Bono Vox. Just a thought. A crazy one, I will concede...

1448: Falkirk could wind up bottom of the pile when the dust settles today if they lose or even draw at Easter Road - depending, of course, on what happens between Inverness and Motherwell.

A single point separates John Hughes' side from the lowly Highlanders and the Bairns are on a slippery slop to SPL oblivion with only one win in 12 games.

1447: Team news from Easter Road:

Hibernian: Szamotulski, McCormack, Hogg, Jones, Stevenson, Johansson, Bamba, Keenan, Nish, Riordan, Fletcher. Subs: Ma-Kalambay, O'Brien, van Zanten, Thicot, Rankin, Chisholm, Rosa.

Falkirk: Dani Mallo, Bullen, Barr, Pressley, Scobbie, Arfield, Riera, Cregg, O'Brien, Lovell, Higdon. Subs: Olejnik, Finnigan, Holden, Stewart, Aafjes, Lynch, Mitchell.

1446: If Celtic bag 11 goals today then they can regain the top spot from arch rivals Rangers. That's not going to happen though...

1445: St Mirren midfielder Andy Dorman is on a high after bagging four goals in as many games and will be looking to make his mark on his Celtic Park debut.

The Paisley side have only lost twice in 13 games and travel to the east end of Glasgow with genuine belief after the Scottish champions needed a highly controversial penalty to beat them at home on the opening day of the season.

1443: Team news from Celtic Park:

Celtic: Boruc, Hinkel, Caldwell, McManus, Naylor, Nakamura, Crosas, Scott Brown, McGeady, McDonald, Vennegoor of Hesselink. Subs: Fox, Samaras, Loovens, Hartley, Flood, O'Dea, Hutchinson.

St Mirren: Smith, Ross, Potter, Haining, Camara, Murray, Dorman, Mason, Brady, Thomson, Mehmet. Subs: Howard, Wyness, Dargo, Hamilton, Barron, McGinn, Burns.

1441: Darting playmaker Sone Aluko recovers from a bug to take his place in Aberdeen's starting line-up.

1440: Team news from Pittodrie:

Aberdeen: Langfield, Vidal, Mair, Diamond, Mulgrew, Maguire, Severin, Kerr, Aluko, Miller, Mackie. Subs: Bossu, Jamie Smith, Wright, Young, Duff, Stewart, Paton.

Kilmarnock: Combe, Clancy, Lilley, Ford, Hay, Pascali, Bryson, Taouil, Hamill, Kyle, Fernandez. Subs: Rascle, Invincibile, Gibson, O'Leary, Flannigan, Sammon, Anson.

1439: Motherwell are looking to extend their unbeaten SPL run to nine matches, but their opponents are enjoying an undefeated spell of their own since former Fir Park gaffer Terry Butcher took over four games ago. If the Highlanders win and Falkirk slip-up at Hibernian then Butcher's boys will leapfrog the Bairns.

1437: Inverness CT v Motherwell team news:
Caley Thistle welcome back midfielders Russell Duncan and Ian Black as they aim to lift themselves off the foot of the table.

Motherwell bring back Brian McLean from his ligament injury, with Paul Quinn suspended.

On-loan Celtic ace Cillian Sheridan also returns to Mark McGhee's starting line-up.

1435: Forget that sub-Forest Gump goon Benjamin Button! What about "The Curious Case of Celtic's Missing Goalscorers". With the honourable exception of Scott McDonald, it's a mystery that would leave Sherlock Holmes or even that great TV sleuth Colombo scratching their chins and shaking their heads in bewilderment.

1434: Thanks Fraser. Afternoon all!

By Fraser Gibson

1432: Well, thanks for your company. Unfortunately, there wasn't too much to enthrall us at New Douglas Park, but hopefully my colleague David Sharp can brighten up your afternoon with his chat combined with the rest of the SPL card. Bye for now!

1423: BBC Radio Scotland reporter Chick Young is reporting that Rangers defender David Weir was struck by a coin from the main stand at New Douglas Park towards the end of the match between Hamilton and Rangers.

1422: I'd love to say it was a classic, but that was dire today. Let's hope the five remaining fixtures produce fireworks!

1421: Full-time. Rangers extend their lead at the top of the SPL to three points and heap the pressure on Celtic to win against St Mirren today.

1420: We're into the two minutes of added time.

1419: On-loan Celtic striker Paul McGowan is the lone striker for Hamilton ... what a story it would be if he scored.

1418: Rangers' Maurice Edu picks out Steven Davis with a lovely dinked ball into the box, but it won't sit nicely for the Northern Irishman and the chance is gone.

1417: This is chronic. Where's the panache?

1412: "Wouldn't surprise me if Hamilton nicked one..Rangers would only have themselves to blame for not putting this game to bed yet." MrBroxiBear on My Sport Join the debate on My Sport

1410: Rangers manager Walter Smith throws on Steven Naismith for Kenny Miller up front.

1408: Hamilton have made a couple of forays forward recently as they begin to sense that they could sneak a point.

1405: Steven Davis misses a golden chance to seal the points as Kris Boyd slides the ball into the area for him, but he fails to convert under pressure.

1403: Whittaker picks out Kris Boyd with a cross from the left to the back post, but it's a tough one for the striker to control and he doesn't connect well enough with the ball.

1402: "Steven Whittaker's just going to go on that left-hand side and do a defensive job." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Billy Dodds on the impending substitution which will see Rangers' Kyle Lafferty withdrawn

1352: This really is insipid stuff. Rangers are well in control but have hardly tested Tomas Cerny in the Hamilton goal.

1349: "I'd rather watch my local sunday league team then this rubbish" LaticsValencia on My Sport

1348: Striker Kenny Deuchar is about to be introduced as a substitute for Hamilton. The home side will be hoping he can recapture his scoring form of last season when he scored three times against Rangers for Gretna.

1346: "No banter on the board today, this is tempting me to get back to my uni essay" Callumthecelt Join the debate on My Sport

1342: "This game is not necessarily over. Rangers need the cushion of a second goal." BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg

1340: Simon Mensing earns the game's first booking as Craig Thomson flashes a yellow card at him for chopping down Maurice Edu. It's his 10th of the season.

1338: Hamilton make another switch, replacing Trent McLenahan with David Elebert.

1335: New Douglas Park has today broken its own attendance record with 5,895 supporters at the clash between Hamilton and Rangers.

1333: We're under way again.

1330: Let's hope the second half is a bit more entertaining than the first-half fare. Make sure you've all got your predictions in for The Predictor game too. The Predictor

1316: Half-time. Rangers are on top and should really have more than one goal to show for their efforts, but Hamilton will be happy they are still in touch.

1313: Barry Ferguson's goal is his first since May, with the midfielder having spent much of the early part of this season recovering from ankle surgery.

1312: Rangers nearly make it 2-0 as Kenny Miller crashes a header off the bar following a corner.

1305: Goal! Hamilton 0-1 Rangers
Rangers captain Barry Ferguson drills the ball into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

1257: Much of the action is in midfield at the moment as both teams search for a breakthrough. These sides meet again, of course, in the Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday 8 March - a game you can see live on BBC Scotland.

1255: Hamilton manager Billy Reid brings on James Gibson for Chris Swailes in what appears to be a tactical switch.

1235: Kenny Miller sprints down the left wing and pings in a great cross for the unmarked Steven Davis. However, the Rangers midfielder can only send a weak header wide of Cerny's left-hand post.

1232: Rangers forward Kyle Lafferty is playing in an advanced role beside Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller and tests Hamilton keeper Tomas Cerny with an early effort which the Czech palms away.

1220: Chris Swailes is in the Hamilton line-up today, but the defender no doubt took a lot of ribbing this week at training after his horror own goal last week. I know the feeling, I have a penchant for putting past my own keeper and feel terrible even playing five-a-sides with my mates!

1215: So, any thoughts on the team news? Maurice Edu has come in for a rare start for Rangers. Let's get your predictions! I think this will be a close game.

1210: Team news from New Douglas Park:

Hamilton: Cerny, McClenahan, Swailes, Neil, Canning, Easton, McGowan, Mensing, McArthur, McCarthy, Offiong. Subs: Murdoch, Elebert, Deuchar, Thomas, Gibson, Lyle, Quinn.
