Norway will take on Scotland four days after the beginning of the SPL season
The Scottish FA is at odds with the Scottish Premier League over the opening date of next season.
Scotland manager George Burley had requested a 1 August start to help prepare for the World Cup qualifying trip to Norway on 12 August.
However, the SPL has announced that the campaign will kick-off on 8 August.
The SFA also insist the SPL should have waited to discuss the schedule with them and the SFL at February's Fixture Co-ordination Group meeting.
"Today's announcement has taken us completely by surprise," said an SFA spokesman.
"In February each year a Fixture Co-ordination Group comprising of representatives of the Scottish FA, SPL and SFL meet to discuss and approve the fixtures for the coming season.
"The meeting for season 2009/10 has not taken place. It is therefore unprecedented that the SPL have - without any consultation - made this announcement.
"As far as we are concerned this meeting should go ahead in February and all partners should have their say in deciding the shape of the football season.
"One of our key priorities for next season is giving Scottish players the proper time to prepare for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Norway on 12 August."
