"It's not often I stand on the sidelines and appreciate a fantastic game of football but it feels like a defeat." United boss Craig Levein.
I'll leave the last word to the visiting manager. It was some match and remember you can see the highlights here on the BBC Sport website from midnight. Make sure you log on to see some great action and thanks for all of the multi-media banter.
"As usual Dundee Utd play out of their skins against Rangers but as is the norm don't bother against other teams they should hang their heads in shame." Colin, Edinburgh via text.
That's a bit harsh, Colsco. United are now on an eight-game unbeaten run.
"What a game. Even though Rangers don't go top, that was EXCELLENT. David Begg could make a sleepathon sound exciting but that was great." Steve m74 via text.
Our Beggy is the main man for live match entertainment, although I think the Rev I. M. Jolly could have raised the roof describing this one. It really was a cracker, although United will be sick at losing such a late goal.
BBC Radio Scotland pundit Billy Dodds has a hard job picking the man of the match and passes on the responsibility to Stephen Craigan, who gives the award to United winger Craig Conway. Francisco Sandaza gets your vote on the player-rater
"I reckon if Utd keep up the improvement this season they could challenge Rangers for 2nd place." Boko via text.
FULL-TIME: Rangers 3-3 Dundee Utd. A corker of match comes to an end, with the points shared.
2139: GOAL! Rangers 3-3 Dundee Utd. Rangers snatch a last-gasp goal when Kevin Thomson jinks past two challenges and smashes home a shot from all of 25 yards.
2136: Lafferty finally gets on with Sasa Papac going off. Rangers appear to have run out of puff, while three minutes of injury time are signalled by the fourth official.
2133: United manager Craig Levein is at the edge of his technical area urging his players to maintain concentration and see this one out.
2129: Barry Ferguson replaces Novo as Lafferty is told to sit down again. Can the Rangers skipper make a late impact?
2127: Sandaza flashes a shot on the turn high and wide as the whirlwind pace shows no sign of abating at Ibrox. United have roughly seven minutes left to hang on, plus added time.
2125: A moment of madness for Zaluska as he swipes at the ball with his feet as Novo charges through but it spins up high and falls into his grateful arms.
2122: Willo Flood leaves a couple of players in his wake to sweep over a dangerous cross but Francisco Sandaza is stretching and can't guide his header on target.
Kyle Lafferty is warming up for Rangers. It looks like game over for Nacho Novo.
"You have to give United credit; they are digging deep but Rangers are asking all the questions." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Billy Dodds.
2114: There's an almighty scramble in front of the United goal, with defenders getting in the way of each other but no Rangers player can capitalise on the chaos.
2112: Pedro Mendes tries his luck with three long range strikes in quick succession, the last of which brings another good save from the impressive Zaluska.
"Rangers are looking so positive. I think there will be more goals in this one." BBC Radio Scotland summariser & Motherwell skipper Stephen Craigan.
2107: Rangers go racing up the park and Boyd and Miller are both given a sniff of goal before Zaluska makes a tremendous save to keep out Boyd's strike.
2105: GOAL! Rangers 2-3 Dundee Utd The home defence makes a proper horlicks of defending a long throw-in and Scott Robertson has the simple task of tapping the ball home from close range.
"United are doing well, here's hoping it ain't another hard luck story!" John - United fan via text
2102: Kenny Miller's shot is deflected wide and the resultant corner sees a bit of a scramble in the United six yard box before the ball is cleared.
2100: Boyd hammers in another powerful strike and Zaluska gets a good, strong hand to it, gathering the ball at the second attempt.
2058: United's Darren Dods picks up the game's first booking for clattering Kenny Miller. It wasn't quite worthy of the MSP team but it looked a sore one.
"I gave up my season ticket tonight because i have an essay for tomorrow... Sounds like I'm missing a bit of a classic." Sir Edmund the Bluenose of My Sport Join the debate
Arise Sir Edmund and get that homework done! After the text commentary has finished, obviously.
2052: Kris Boyd smashes in a left-foot strike from 20 yards and Zaluska makes an impressive flying save to parry the ball out for a corner.
The last opposition player to grab a hat-trick at Ibrox was boyhood Rangers fan Ivan Sproule, playing for Hibs in August 2005.
2050: The second half is under way.
Touchline reporter Chick Young breaks into laughter after saying that "McGregor has fumbled a couple"; it's all gone a bit Dick Emery on BBC Radio Scotland. I tell you, standards are dropping...
"The Rangers defence, for perhaps the first time this season, is looking very shaky. Prepare for Walter Smith hairdryer..." Sloop John B on My Sport Join the debate
I think you could be right Sloop. Uncle Walter will be 'doing his dinger' at the space Sandanza was left in before his second goal.
Remember you can see highlights of the match on this very website from midnight. It's worth staying up for.
Francisco Sandaza leads the way on the player-rater with a mighty nine out of ten. Will he be the top man after 90 minutes?

2032: After a brief lull in the proceedings, Zaluska has to race from his penalty area and make a sliding challenge at the feet of the speeding Kenny Miller.
What a game! It's fast, it's furious, it's fabulous stuff...
2024: GOAL! Rangers 2-2 Dundee Utd. The unlikely figure of Sasa Papac bangs in his first ever goal for Rangers. Nacho Novo lifts a clever pass over the United defence and the Bosnian defender hammers it in from close range after a deft first touch.
2022: Rangers forward Kenny Miller robs the dithering Sean Dillon on the byeline and races into the penalty box before flashing a curling strike inches wide of the far post.
2015: GOAL! Rangers 1-2 Dundee Utd. Even better work from Dixon as he charges forward and finds Scott Robertson who forces a save from Allan McGregor but the keeper can't hold it andFrancisco Sandaza is there to tap in his second goal of the evening.
The shot was straight at McGregor but it was a stinging, low effort from near the penalty spot. The BBC Radio Scotland team are divided on whether or not the keeper is to blame.
2014: Good defending from Paul Dixon as the United full-back heads away a delicious curling cross from Kevin Thomson under pressure from Boyd at the back post.
"Rangers are starting to control the game again." BBC Radio Scotland summariser & Motherwell captain Stephen Craigan.
2009: Boyd has done it again... An offside 'goal', I mean. This time Kirk Broadfoot had galloped forward too early before squaring for his team-mate.

2004: GOAL! Rangers 1-1 Dundee Utd. Morgaro Gomis slips the ball through to Francisco Sandaza the striker's first-time shot from 18 yards whistles low into the net.

"Bougherra and Weir look so strong for Rangers. I think United will cause them problems but I can't see anything other than a Rangers win." Doddsy is backing a home win.
The BBC Radio Scotland team are a bit bored waiting for kick off. They're discussing who can do the best impression of pundit Billy Dodds, who banged in a whole load of goals for both of tonight's teams.
Doddsy was assistant manager at Tannadice when United last won at Ibrox in April 2005.
"I'm going for a good old 7-4 victory for Utd." Bob Loblaw on My Sport Join the debate
A bold prediction from Bob (nice Arrested Development tribute, by the way). What do the rest of you think?
TEAM NEWS: Rangers are unchanged from Saturday, so skipper Barry Ferguson has to settle for a place on the bench. United striker Warren Feeney is suspended following his red card at Falkirk. Spaniard Francisco Sandaza steps in for the visitors.
Good evening and welcome to a spot of respite from all of the US election news.
Rangers entertain Dundee United on league duty since the original tie was postponed after the death of Tannadice chairman Eddie Thompson last month.
Supporters of Barack Obama are anticipating a landslide victory over the pond but I suspect the outcome at Ibrox may be a little closer fought.
Rangers are on a high after Saturday's 5-0 thumping of Inverness, with Kris Boyd netting a first-half hat-trick. However, United are on a good run - their sequence of six straight victories coming to an end with a goalless draw at Falkirk at the weekend.
Craig Levein's side have a habit of making life difficult for Rangers at Tannadice, so can they bring that form with them to Glasgow or will it be business as usual and another home win for one of the Old Firm?
