Rangers and Celtic can both still win the title on Sunday |
Sportscene, Sunday 25 May, BBC1 1440-1735 BST, BBC2 1455-1645BBC viewers in Scotland will be able to watch both Celtic and Rangers live on Sunday as the title race comes to a thrilling climax.
BBC One Scotland will show Rangers, leaders by virtue of having scored one extra goal, play host to Dunfermline Athletic.
And BBC Two Scotland will broadcast from Rugby Park as reigning champions Celtic visit Kilmarnock.
The historic coverage is the result of a special deal negotiated between the Scottish Premier League and the BBC despite interest from rival broadcasters.
BBC Scotland head of programmes Ken MacQuarrie said: "We initially secured the rights to show 38 live games this season, but extending this by one match allows us to follow all the action as it happens on the final day of the season.
It's fitting that both matches will be seen by hundreds of thousands of fans throughout Scotland SPL marketing director Stewart Thomson |
"Added to our Scottish Cup games, Uefa Cup encounters, including the final in Seville, and Scotland international matches, this proves that the national broadcaster is at the heart of Scotland's national game." The Scottish Cup final between Dundee and Rangers on 31 May will take the number of live Scottish matches shown on BBC Scotland to 54, with an incredible 88% of the population tuning in at some point over the season.
Bank of Scotland Scottish Premier League director of marketing Stewart Thomson added: "This is fantastic news for supporters of the Old Firm and football fans throughout the country.
"It's a gripping conclusion to a tremendous SPL season and it's fitting that both matches will be seen by hundreds of thousands of fans throughout Scotland."
Rangers remain favourites to regain the title they last won in 1999-2000.
They have scored 16 goals, and lost only one, in Dunfermline's last four visits to Ibrox. Dunfermline, once in contention for a Uefa Cup place, have suffered a slump since December.
While they had a couple of draws at Ibrox in 1988, the Pars have not beaten Rangers since February 1988 and have not won on Rangers' turf since the 1971-72 season.
A late run of good form has not been enough to win Kilmarnock a place in Europe next season, but they held Celtic on their last visit to Ayrshire.
The two Glasgow clubs will not only be looking to win but score as many goals as possible in anticipation that the title race could be decided by goal difference or even the number of goals scored.
Should they be tied on points, goal difference and goals scored, a winner-take-all play-off will be played at neutral Hampden Park on Tuesday 3 June.
