Peat has come in for criticism over the youth football row

Scottish FA president George Peat has hit back at those calling for his resignation over the ongoing youth football dispute.

Peat has come under fire from Ross County, Dunfermline and Dundee following their expulsion from the elite youth league.

The clubs failed to comply with SFA registration and coaching regulations.

"My casting vote was used on only one occasion, the other two were unanimous," said Peat.

"The decision was taken by the Professional Football Committee under Campbell Ogilvie's chairmanship. The Emergency Committee then met when the clubs appealed to determine whether the PFC erred in its decision.

"Ross County did not meet the criteria on two counts. The clubs were well aware of the criteria.

"If they are allowed to participate after breaching the rules then there is no point in having rules. The Scottish FA has to be consistent in its decision making."

County and the Pars failed to meet a SFA rule asking that staff disclosure forms, relating to child protection, be renewed every three years.

Dundee were punished because they did not have a second youth licence holder due to of a member of their coaching staff moving on.

All the clubs have taken steps to rectify what they see as simple administrative oversights.

And County chairman Roy MacGregor aims to bring the matter up with first minister Alex Salmond at a meeting on Monday.
