Toshack believes Hennessey could soon be playing in the Premier League
Wales boss John Toshack has tipped goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey for the top after his "outstanding" display in the 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands.
The 21-year-old Wolves keeper's recent form has attracted the attention of Arsenal, Everton and Middlesbrough with the youngster valued at more than 5m.
Toshack believes a move up could be on the cards for Hennessey and said that could only be a good thing for Wales.
"Where he is next season, I don't know, it's not for us to say," he said.
"It has been an interesting 12 months, we have played 13 matches in that time and only lost three, and that includes against Holland and Germany.
"We have had some terrific goalkeeping in that run, and again Hennessey was outstanding against Holland."
During Sunday's game the 6ft 4ins stopper pulled off a string of fine saves to ensure Wales were not humiliated by the Dutch in Rotterdam.
Despite all the increasing plaudits, Toshack is hoping any move Hennessey makes does not end up with him just warming a Premier League side's bench.
That is what has happened to former Gillingham keeper Jason Brown who has remained a virtually-unused understudy to Brad Friedel after signing for Blackburn two seasons ago.
Brown has only played once for Wales since and the Wales manager gave a subtle warning to Beaumaris-born Hennessey not to fall into the same trap for the sake of his career.
"We have had a lot of youngsters who have moved up divisions in their careers recently and as long as they are playing, it is all right by us," he said.
"But some end up sitting on the bench. That is not much good for us then."
Toshack also pointed out that Hennessey's place could be under increasing pressure from Hull's Boaz Myhill who is likely to playing regularly in the top flight with his newly-promoted club.
"Our goalkeeping situation has improved considerably," said Toshack. "Apart from Wayne we have Boaz Myhill in the squad now.
"He has had a great season with Hull and will, we assume, be a Premier League regular next season.
"So Wayne knows that he has got somebody pushing him who will be playing regularly in the top flight."
