Wrexham 3-3 TNS (aet)
Wrexham win 5-4 win on penalties

Wrexham survived a huge scare against Welsh Premier side TNS before clinching a 5-4 win on penalties in a thrilling FAW Premier Cup semi-final.

Michael Ingham saved TNS keeper Ged Doherty's sudden-death spot kick after Shaun Pejic had scored for Wrexham.

Steve Evans forced penalties with an extra-time equaliser after Dennis Lawrence had put Wrexham ahead.

Scott Ruscoe and Nick Ward scored for TNS in normal time, with Mark Jones and Juan Ugarte replying for Wrexham.

Ingham had earlier made a superb save to keep Wrexham alive in the penalty shoot-out by denying Mike Jackson.

Doherty himself saved four Wrexham penalties, but failed to find the net with TNS' crucial ninth penalty.

Ruscoe opened the scoring after 39 rather dull minutes, as he benefited from a terrible defensive mistake from Dave Bayliss.

Before falling behind, Wrexham had a excellent shout for a penalty turned down when Jon Walters fell under Steven Beck's lunge from behind.

Wrexham brought on new loan signing Ugarte for the second half, but their hopes were dealt a blow in the opening minutes when they lost wing-back Dean Bennett (ankle) and striker Jon Walters (cheekbone) to injury.

Before then, TNS could have added to their lead when Graham Evans flashed a volley over the bar and Michael Wilde saw his glancing header saved by Ingham.

Barry Hogan then protected TNS' lead by clearing Danny Williams' header off the line, but two minutes later Wrexham were level thanks to Jones' stunning 25-yard volley which Doherty could merely watch in admiration.

TNS, unbeaten since losing at the Racecourse to Liverpool in a Champions League qualifier in July, looked to have won it when Ward found the top left-hand corner from 20 yards with four minutes to go.

But Ugarte's lob over the stranded Doherty saved Wrexham's blushes when his 89th-minute equaliser took the game into extra time.

Wrexham took the lead 10 minutes into extra time when Lawrence, playing as a makeshift centre forward, found space to drill past Doherty.

But Evans, another makeshift centre forward, ensured the drama continued into a penalty shoot-out when another Wrexham defensive mix-up allowed him to lob Ingham from 30 yards.
