The Carling Cup will continue under its current name until 2012 after the Football League announced an extended sponsorship deal had been agreed.
Coors Brewers, Carling's parent company, will have been sponsors for 14 years by the end of the deal.
"This is a further boost to a competition that is currently in its best shape for many seasons," Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney said.
"The Carling Cup remains a highly-coveted piece of silverware."
He added: "This significant increase will enhance further the cup's reputation.
"Considering the prevailing economic climate, it is extremely heartening to have the continued support of a widely respected brand like Carling.
"Together, we will look to continue the progress made by this competition in recent seasons."
This season's competition is at the semi-final stage with the next games taking place in January.
Holders Tottenham face giant-killers Burnley in one tie while Manchester United take on Derby in the other.
