Peter Thompson celebrated Irish Cup final success with Linfield in May

Linfield have achieved their main summer target by securing the services of striker Peter Thompson for the next three seasons.

Thompson signed a three-year deal with the Blues on Thursday after returning to the club on loan from Stockport County in January.

The striker's return was instrumental in the club achieving a fourth league and cup double in five seasons.

Linfield have released striker Mark Miskimmin and he has joined Glenavon.

The Blues have been holding negotiations with Stockport in recent weeks as they attempted to secure Thompson's signature.

Northern Ireland international Thompson scored the first goal in the 2-1 Irish Cup final win over Portadown in May.

After that victory, Blues manager David Jeffrey spoke of his determination to hang on to Thompson while the player also said that he would welcome a permanent return to the south Belfast club.
