Linfield boss David Jeffrey celebrated a fourth league and cup double in five seasons by declaring he wants to keep striker Peter Thompson at Windsor Park.

Thompson returned in January on loan from League One Stockport County and scored the first in Saturday's 2-1 Irish Cup final win over Portadown.

"I hope very much he will be with us but negotiations have to take place with Stockport," said Jeffrey.

Thompson said: "I love Linfield, but there are a lot of factors in there."

The Northern Ireland international has won all four Irish Cup finals he has played in.

And he said he welcome a permanent return to the south Belfast club.

"Hopefully, something will get sorted out over the next few months," he added.

"But it would be foolish of me to say what was going to happen because I just do not know."
