Peter Thompson and Curtis Allen scored two goals each in the final 16 minutes to give Linfield a comfortable 5-0 home win over Newry City.

The Blues had led through a fine 20-yard Jamie Tomelty shot on 24 minutes.

Substitute Allen tapped in number two at the far post after a corner and Thompson's header made it 3-0.

Allen then headed in the fourth while Thompson was given room in the box to shoot number five, leaving Linfield just one point off the top.

David Jeffrey's men are fourth on 42 points, with new leaders Cliftonville tied on 43 with Crusaders and Glentoran.
