Glentoran manager Alan McDonald is considering stepping down after an "embarrassing and humiliating" 6-0 hammering by Coleraine at the Oval.

Up to 200 Glens fans stayed after the game to protest, with many calling for McDonald to quit.

"I can only apologise to the fans - I'm the manager and the responsibility lies squarely on my shoulders," he added.

"Perhaps it is something to do with what I'm doing and I'll be thinking things over regarding my position."

Rory Patterson scored four goals for the Bannsiders as the league champions slipped to their biggest post-war home league defeat.

McDonald kept the players in the dressing room for 45 minutes following the dismal display.

"I've spoken to the players and we are at rock bottom in there," said the former Northern Ireland international.

"No Glentoran team should be beaten 6-0 at home in the league and for that I take full responsibility.

"This is the lowest I have ever felt in my football career."
