Managerless Newry hold leaders Crusaders to a 1-1 draw
Carling Premiership leaders Crusaders dropped two more points as 10-man Newry grabbed an 80th-minute equaliser from defender Emmett Friars at Seaview.
The Crues, beaten at Institute on Tuesday, went into the lead in the 49th minute when David Rainey shot under City keeper Andy Coleman.
Newry defender Cullen Feeney was sent-off after getting a second yellow card for dissent on 77 minutes.
Friars headed in from a throw to give caretaker boss Robert Casey a point.
So another disappointing result for Stephen Baxter's men as they attempt to make a sustained challenge for the title.
They were distinctly off-key in the first half with a snatched shot from Aaron Black which went wide their best effort.
Rainey's left-foot drive gave the Crusaders striker his 11th goal of the season and the Seaview side could have gone two up by Gareth McKeown volleyed over.
Both goalkeepers were booked - Chris Keenan of Crusaders for racing out and colliding with Stephen Garrett and Newry's Coleman for handling outside his area.
