Coleraine 3-2 Ballymena Utd

Coleraine's Rory Patterson scored a hat-trick
Rory Patterson got all three for Coleraine in their win over Ballymena

Rory Patterson scored a hat-trick as Coleraine won Tuesday night's derby clash to maintain their fine start to the Carling Premiership campaign.

Patterson scored from Stephen Carson's ball in the 18th minute and quickly followed that by netting a free-kick.

Aidan Watson pulled one back just before the break and Kevin Kelbie equalised in the 61st minute.

Andy Smith missed a penalty for United allowing Patterson to win it with an 81st-minute half-volley from 18 yards.

It leaves David Platt's Bannsiders on seven points after three matches.

Ballymena, who endured a terrible start to the last campaign, have lost their first three Premiership fixtures.

Lisburn Distillery are the only other side yet to pick up a point.

It could have been so different if Smith had put away the 64th-minute penalty instead of blazing it over the bar.

It had seemed a dubious award by referee David Malcolm as home defender Matt Crossan had appeared to win the ball when challenging Smith.
