Linfield boss David Jeffrey celebrates after the 2005 Setanta Cup success
Linfield have decided to take part in this season's Setanta Sports Cup but they will review their participation next year.
The Blues have concerns about the financial viability of the competition, and also the effect it will have on domestic league commitments.
The All-Ireland competition was given the go-ahead for 2008/9 despite the financial troubles of the broadcaster.
The Setanta Sports Cup draw will take place in Dublin on 28 July.
Linfield, who won the inaugural Setanta Cup in 2005, made their decision to enter the cup following a meeting of their management committee on Monday night.
The first games in the competition will be played on the weekend of 29-30 August.
Five clubs from the Republic and four from Northern Ireland will take part.
