Marty Quinn was manager of Bangor until Sunday night
Marty Quinn has been appointed as the new manager of Glenavon on a three-and-a-half year deal after leaving Bangor.
Quinn was given permission to speak to the Lurgan Blues after Bangor announced that they will not be applying to play in the JJB Premiership next season.
The former Cliftonville and Coleraine boss replaces Stephen McBride who was sacked by the Mourneview Park club after they fell bottom of the league.
Quinn is hoping to sign players before the end of Monday's transfer deadline.
The highly regarded boss will bring his backroom team of Geoff Montgomery and David Dorrian with him.
"I had talks with the Bangor chairman and we have parted on the best of terms," said Quinn.
"After a lot of soul-searching and taking with the Glenavon Directors on Sunday night I agreed to the move.
"I leave Bangor with a heavy heart but have no doubt that I am making the right move.
"Glenavon can only go one way and that is up so I hope to keep them in the Premier League this season, then push the club further up the table in the next few seasons, and then be challenging for honours.
"They are a big club who have been a sleeping giant for many years and have tried a lot of managers but I will try my hardest to turn the club round."
Bangor will not be in a position to renew its Domestic Licence
Bangor FC statement
Meanwhile the Seasiders, who lie eighth in the top division, say they will not be applying for a Domestic Licence to play in next year's IFA Premiership.
Financial difficulties are behind the Clandeboye Park club's decision to forfeit their Premiership status.
A club statement said: "The Chairman and Directors of Bangor Football Club regret to announce that the club will not be in a position to renew its Domestic Licence".
Reacting to Bangor's announcement, the IFA board announced that the Championship winners will replace the Seasiders in next year's Premiership - providing that they have a domestic licence.
The Championship runners-up will take on the 12th place finisher in this season's Premiership in the promotion-relegation play-off - providing that club is not Bangor and subject to the runners-up having a domestic licence.
If Bangor do finish 12th, the 11th place side will be involved in the play-off.
If the IFA Championship winners do not have a domestic licence, the runners-up, providing they have a licence, will replace Bangor in the Premiership.
In the event of neither the Championship winners nor runner-up having a domestic licence, the Premiership vacancy will be filled by the highest club in the table that does hold the necessary documentation.
