Kenny unhappy at penalty verdicts

Stephen Kenny's Derry City lost out 4-2 on penalties
Stephen Kenny's Derry lost to Bohemians 4-2 on penalties

Derry City boss Stephen Kenny pointed to two crucial penalty verdicts which went against his side in Sunday's FAI Cup final against Bohemians.

City had a penalty claim turned down when Sammy Morrow looked to have been barged off the ball and the Bohs scored after a harsh hand-ball decision.

"The challenge on Sammy Morrow looked a penalty from where I was but it was not given," said Kenny.

"Then ball to hand for their penalty - very, very harsh to say the least."

Kenny was pleased with his side's display in what was an entertaining cup final at the RDS.

"On the day we performed absolutely brilliantly in difficult conditions, but we have come out the wrong side of it. It is hard to take, but that's life," he added.

"We have won a few penalty shoot-outs and felt we would win this one.

"It is the first time I have ever seen Kevin Deery or Ruairi Higgins miss because they are confident and decisive lads.

"I was not like them but they are only human and they have been brilliant for me all season. That is just the way it goes.

"I thought we were terrific and played really well and were probably the better side on the day."
