Andrew Waterworth joined Hamilton Academicals in January
Hamilton Academicals striker Andrew Waterworth looks like returning to the Irish League after having transfer talks with Linfield and Glentoran.
The former Lisburn Distillery front man met Glens officials on Saturday morning and then attended Linfield's abandoned match against Cliftonville.
"We have tracked Andrew for some time," said Linfield manager David Jeffrey.
"Any player that comes here has got to want to come here. If Andrew wants to be here, then he will be."
Waterworth, from Crossgar, moved to Hamilton in January and helped them gain promotion to the Scottish Premier League.
But the 22-year-old was not involved in the team's opening league wins over Dundee United and Inverness Caley Thistle.
Lisburn Distillery are keen to get Waterworth back to New Grosvenor but boss Paul Kirk knows they would probably lose out to the bigger Belfast clubs if it came down to a bidding war.
Former Northern Ireland Under-21 star Waterworth has two years remaining on his contract at Hamilton.
Before joining Distillery he had spells with Glentoran and Ards.
"Jeffrey added: "We had submitted a bid but that was not accepted by Hamilton because they wanted to keep him at that time.
"Then we were told that Andrew could became free.
"However, whatever happens, our search for new players does not conclude."
