Neither side could break the deadlock and the Candystripes now trail new leaders St Patrick's Athletic, who won 3-0 at Finn Harps, by a point.
Bohemians are a point behind Derry in third, after drawing 1-1 at home to Bray Wanderers, also on Friday night.
Derry's next league game is away to Bray next Friday night.
Before that, Stephen Kenny's side travel to the Oval to take on Glentoran in a Setanta Sports Cup tie on Tuesday night.
Derry maintain their unbeaten record in the league after six matches played.
