Stephen Baxter's side trounced Newry City on Saturday |
Two late goals by substitute Jordan Owens put the gloss on Crusaders' comprehensive Carnegie Premier League win over Glenavon at Mourneview Park. The 29th-minute opener came as the Glenavon defence hesitated, thinking the ball had gone wide, before David Rainey set up Darren Lockhart to score. Sammy Stewart blazed over a great chance to level before half-time. Rainey doubled Crusaders' lead on the hour and Owens piled on the misery for Glenavon with goals on 76 and 87. Owens' first goal came as he nipped in ahead of Glenavon goalkeeper Paul Cairnduff and stabbed Tony Gorman's cross to the net. The Crusaders substitute then produced a delightful solo effort for the fourth as he beat three challenges before hammering home.
Crusaders remain seventh in the table despite their victory. The defeat leaves Glenavon still looking over the shoulder somewhat at the relegation mix. The Lurgan Blues remain five points clear of the relegation play-off but it's not been a good Easter for manager Terry Cochrane with Tuesday's defeat following Saturday's 3-0 reverse against Glentoran.
