Gary Hamilton scored Glentoran's second goal |
Glentoran kept up their title challenge by beating Portadown who had Andy Smith sent-off after 37 minutes of the game. Smith saw red when he lunged at Paul Leeman in retaliation for a foul for which the Glens skipper was booked.
The unmarked Jason Hill opened the scoring on 71 minutes with a left-foot shot from eight yards out.
Peter Kennedy's late effort was cleared off the line by Colin Nixon before Gary Hamilton wrapped up the points by slotting into the empty net on 90.
Kevin Braniff went close for the home side early on but his shot just cleared the bar and then Philip Carson's 25-yard volley was well saved by Ports goalkeeper David Miskelly.
Braniff then bent an effort over Elliott Morris but the ball went just wide of the target.
Hamilton hit the post for Glentoran and early in the second half, Miskelly produced a great save to deny Kyle Neill after the former Portadown player latched onto Hamilton's flick.
The impressive Braniff had a long-range effort deflected wide and, after Hill's opener, David Scullion saw his shot saved by Miskelly.
