Kevin Kelbie scored twice as Ballymena came from behind to beat Newry 2-1 and move into fourth place, extending their unbeaten league run to 10 games. Newry took the lead on five minutes, Sean Friars threading the ball through to Richard Clarke who slotted the ball past Paul Murphy from 15 yards out.
Kelbie broke clear and beat Robert Robinson four minutes after the break.
On 75 minutes Mark Picking beat the offside trap and squared the ball to Kelbie who coolly found the Newry net.
After Clarke's opener, Murphy saved from Joe McDonnell and Clarke hit the sidenetting with the rebound.
Stephen Lowry went close for the Sky Blues with a shot from an acute angle six minutes before half-time.
United showed their resilience in the second half to secure victory and earn a psychological boost ahead of January's Irish Cup tie between the sides.
