Boss Malone furious over decision
Emmett Friars of Newy in action against Glenavon's Neal Gawley
Emmett Friars of Newy in action against Glenavon's Neal Gawley
Glenavon boss Colin Malone has blasted referee Hugh Carvill's decision not to award a penalty and send off Cullen Feeney in the 2-1 defeat by Newry.

The official instead gave a free-kick on the edge of the box and showed only a yellow card to defender Feeney.

"Neal Gawley is running in on goal and the last man takes him down. It does not take a brain surgeon to work it out. It is a red card," said Malone.

"I am very angry at the referee. I just feel as if we have been mugged."

Glenavon were adamant that Feeney had clipped Gawley inside the box in the first half when the score was 0-0.

And they were certain Feeney should have walked.

"The referee explained to me that Gawley was running away from goal," added manager Malone.

"That is bizarre, an absolutely ridiculous statement to make.

"A player bearing down on goal, through the middle and he is running away from goal? I cannot explain that but that was the excuse I got."
