John Robertson's side crashed out of the FAI Cup last week |
Derry City's poor season continued as they slipped to another home defeat by Cork in Friday's Eircom League clash. Killian Brennan put Derry ahead on 11 minutes and Kevin McHugh should have added to the lead before Denis Behan levelled on the stroke of half-time.
Derry went close to regaining the lead on the hour but Gareth McGlynn's header came back off the woodwork
Three minutes later, John O'Flynn headed Cork's winner after Derry keeper Dave McEwan had flapped at a corner.
The ball wasn't cleared and O'Flynn punished the debutant custodian by nodded the ball home from close range.
Cork should have extended their advantage five minutes from time but winger Liam McKearney wasted the opportunity when clean through on goal.
Derry's Sean Hargan was fortunate not to be red carded in the first half after he had produced a bad challenge on a Cork player.
McHugh wasted his first-half opportunity when he headed over in the 18th minute after McGlynn's pinpoint cross.
